“Amazing Gracie, A Dog’s Tale” by Dan Dye and Mark Beckloff

Review by Pam Marr Rybinski

Serendipity is the first word that comes to mind after using “Dogpile.com” to check on the health of the business that amazing Gracie inspired. This book would be worth a read no matter how the business turned out, but it seems the “Three Dog Bakery” is still going strong. Gracie was one puppy in a large litter of Great Danes, shunned because she was an albino with handicaps from birth: deafness and partial blindness.  When Dan Dye went with his friend, Anne, to see the left-over “little mistake” of the litter, Gracie managed to get to her feet, stumble to him, and somehow convey to him that she was his chosen one, not “the runt in the corner.” Dan’s intention was to save Gracie, but in the loving way of a canine, she ultimately saves him . . . Amazing!
