“Pukka, the Pup After Merle”, by Ted Kerasote

Review by Pam Rybinski

If you read and liked “Merle’s Door,” the best seller about a large and intelligent feral dog turned man’s partner, by Ted Kerasote, you may be disappointed by this book . . . if not aware in advance that it is simply not the same type of publication.  “Pukka” is basically a scrapbook compilation of precious puppy pictures, dramatic pictures of the great outdoors, and views of the author teaching Pukka basic commands, all the time utilizing the imagined vocabulary of a young yellow lab. It’s a good book to share with a young reader . . . unless you think they’d be upset by the episode where puppy Pukka is nearly blinded by a visiting adult male dog.
