Review by Pam Marr Rybinski
Think you’d enjoy the wackiness of common English idioms taken literally? Do you like warm-hearted oddballs who refuse to conform to unjust rules and regulations? Are mysteries a favorite genre? You just may want to sample this Chet and Bernie mystery by New York Times Bestselling Author, Spencer Quinn.
Chet, short for Chet the Jet, is the narrator of this zany mystery. He also happens to be a smart dog who flunked out on the very last segment of his exam for a K9 career. He is rescued by Bernie, another canny government red-tape drop-out, who has formed Little Detective Agency. Said cash-strapped agency is fully staffed by said Bernie Little and said Chet the Jet. When trained circus elephant Peanut disappears into thin air, Chet & Bernie happen to be on the spot. As canine Chet might mention, he “did not see a spot.”
The framework upon which Quinn builds his magic plot is the absolute love between man and his devoted “faithful-friend-forever” animal. The purity and strength of that devotion might be the biggest mystery of all.
